Senator Shehu Sani, has blasted the Kano State Hisbah Board over their call to scrap the promotional sales day, Black Friday.

On Friday, the Hisbah board asked a radio station in the state to stop using the word “Black Friday” since Friday is regarded as a holy day in Islam. They argued that tagging it “Black Friday” is derogatory and a thus, should not be condoned.

The letter read:

“I am directed to write and notify you that me eke is in receipt of complaint for the conduct of BLACK FRIDAY SALES on 27th November 2020 instant.

Accordingly, we wish to express our concern on the tagging of the Friday as “Black Friday and further inform you that, the majority of the inhabitants of Kano state are Muslims that consider Friday as Holy Day.

In view of the foregoing you are requested to stop calling the day as Black Friday with immediate effect and note that Hisbah Corps will be around for Surveillance purposes with a view to avoiding occurrence of any immoral activities as well a maintaining peace, harmony, and stability In the state.”

Reacting to the statement, the former lawmaker from Kaduna described the threat by the Hisbah board as ‘nonsensical.”

He wrote:

Friday is our sacred day of prayer as Muslims.Whatever colour is added to it doesn’t matter.Hisbah’s threats against the phrase’Black Friday’ is nonsensical.They should focus on the killings and kidnappings going on in their domains.Their services are needed in the battlefield.
